What makes me basic? Maybe the fact that I can’t start my day without an iced coffee? The fact that I can’t leave my house without a stitch of make up? The fact that I look forward to my weekly manicure? The fact that I treat brunch like a holiday and champagne as a sacred drink? Or, the fact that when I get excited about a topic or story? Or that I also say the word “like” 500 times? Maybe. But like there is so much more to me than just meets the eye. My mind goes deeper than my outward appearance or the words that slip out. I may lose my train of thought and can only thing of the word “like” to fill the space between words but that doesn’t make me dumb. I keep up with current events. I have love for animals and compassion for others. I’m big believer in reducing plastic waste or any waste for that matter. I love being alive even when my physical chemistry makes it hard for me to feel happy.
Basic is defined as forming an essential foundation or starting point; fundamental. So how did this word become one that we use to describe others or ourselves. With this blog I want to assure you that being basic is not something to be ashamed of. If it weren’t for fundamentals there wouldn’t be a starting point. Being basic means we are just getting started. Getting started to be the greatest version of ourselves. We all have to start somewhere and why not with the basics. (see what I did there)
My plan for this blog is to keep it simple. Let’s talk about all things that make us basic. Let’s embrace our basic selves and see what we evolve into. Who’s ready to be greater with better versions of ourselves? Basic is taking over.
